Lime flesh converted into manure

Wet limed fleshing is the major solid waste generated from tannery. 10 15% of wet limed flesh is generated as waste based on the pelt weight of the hides during the fleshing process. At present only part of the limed flesh is taken for glue manufactured and remaining is used for chicken feed manufactured. However the fleshing can also be made into compost using bacterial consortium and coir pith is also biodegraded using bacteria both are blended together to give nutrient to the plant and retain moisture. The process takes about a week to form a finished product. The compost is applied directly to the plant particularly in the areas of water shortage. The compost material was sent to the Tamilnadu Agriculture University, coimbatore for analysis and the report is as follows.

Nitrogen 37ppm; Phosphorous 17.2ppm; and Potassium 145ppm

Processed lime flesh in the background and processed coir pith in the foreground are seen in the photograph

Processed animal material serves as nutrients and the processed plant material as coinbith functions to moisture.
