Desalination Technology

     It is a novel method of using seawater as a raw material for production of drinking water as per ISO standards, and production of byproducts such as calcium chloride and magnesium ammonium phosphate which is considered as chloride free fertilizer.

  • The basic reaction describing the process is:

MgCl2 + MgBr2 + MgSO4+ 9NH4OH + 3H3 PO4 3NH4MgPO4 . H2O + 2NH4Cl + 2 NH4Br +(NH4) 2SO4 (1)

2NH4Cl + 2 NH4Br +(NH4) 2SO4 +Ca(OH) 2 6NH3 +CaCl2 +CaBr2 + CaSO4. 2 H2O + 4 H2O (2)

The process has several advantages

  • Simplicity
  • High recovery efficiency.
  • High purity of products
  • The magnesium source, seawater bittern is a by-product virtually inexhaustible.

The process produces a byproduct of high purity gypsum and a solution rich in potassium, sodium and calcium chloride from which these salts may be produced by known industrial process.
